Directions to the Potash Bowl

From Brattleboro, Vermont:

Take Route 9 East to the Roundabout of Winchester Street/Routes 9/10/12/101. You will see Best Western Sovereign Motel on your right and a shopping plaza on your left. Follow directions below for Direct Route or Scenic Route.

From Walpole/Westmoreland Area:

Take Route 12 South to Keene past Maple Avenue and West Street Exits to Roundabout at Winchester Street/Routes 9/10/12/101. You will see Best Western Sovereign Motel on your right and a shopping plaza on your left. Follow directions below for Direct Route or Scenic Route.

From Concord:

Take Route 93 South to Route 89 South. Take Exit 5 (left turn exit) Follow Route 9 West all the way to Keene until you see signs for Swanzey/Brattleboro, VT. Turn left at lights, staying in second left turn lane and continue on Route 9 East to the Roundabout at Winchester Street/Routes 9/10/12/101. You will see Best Western Sovereign Motel on your right and a shopping plaza on your left. Follow directions below for Direct Route or Scenic Route.

SCENIC ROUTE OR DIRECT ROUTE:

For Scenic trip through Sawyer’s Crossing Covered Bridge:

At the Roundabout at Winchester Street, BEAR RIGHT onto Route 10/ Winchester Street heading South until you see Hamshaw’s/Ace Hardware, Portland Glass and Cheshire Animal Hospital on your right. Take the next LEFT which is Matthews Road. Continue on Matthews Road to the stop sign at Sawyer’s Crossing in front of red house. At the stop sign turn left and proceed through covered bridge, continuing on Sawyer’s Crossing Road to next stop sign at Eaton Road. TURN LEFT onto Eaton Road. You will come out at stop sign by the schools and POTASH BOWL will be ahead on right.

For Direct Route:

Go straight through the Roundabout at Winchester St. and continue on Route 9/101 East to traffic lights at Routes 9/10/12/101. (Main Street--You should see Achille Agway and Norm’s Ski Shop on your right) Turn right onto Route 12 South. Follow Route 12 South to Route 32 South. Continue on Route 32 (Old Homestead Highway) for approximately 6 miles over a bridge until you see the schools. Bearing left at the intersection by the schools, you will see the Potash Bowl and you will be in Swanzey Center. Swanzey Town Hall will be on your left.

The entrance is under the Potash Bowl sign where the ticket booth for the play is located.

From Manchester/Route 101 and All Points East:

Follow Route 101 West towards Keene. As you come out of Marlborough, you will past Cheshire Oil Company on your right and Fireplace Village will be on your left. Just after Fireplace Village , Swanzey Factory Road will come in on your left (just before bridge). Take this left which will take you to Route 12. At stop sign, Coach House Motel & Cottages will be on your right, go straight across Route 12 onto Lake Street. Lake Street connects with Route 32. Turn left onto Route 32 South. Continue on Route 32 (Old Homestead Highway) for approximately 6 miles over a bridge until you see the schools. Bearing left at the intersection by the schools, you will see the Potash Bowl and you will be in Swanzey Center. Swanzey Town Hall will be on your left.

Josh: "Crooked! I guess they was. I had to get Jack Martin's boy to put a halter on me and take me up to the Common every morning and let me go. Didn't make no difference which way I struck out, I always fetched up on the Boston Common."
